What is Methyl Ethyl Ketone?

Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), also known as 2-butanone, ethyl methyl ketone, or methyl acetone, is a water-soluble, colorless liquid that is used as an efficient and volatile solvent for surface coatings. Because of its efficiency, MEK is often used to make high solids coatings. Commercially, MEK is used as a cleaner and solvent for glues, paints, coatings, and printing inks. On the industrial side, it is used as a solvent for stripping and cleaning resins, coatings, pumps, and other equipment.
